Liposuction
What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes fat deposits from under your skin. VASER liposuction refers to a type of liposuction that breaks apart fat cells and loosens them from your deeper tissues so that fat can more effectively be removed during the treatment.
VASER is an acronym for vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance. This ultrasound technology uses powerful waves to disrupt the bonds between fat cells.
VASER liposuction is considered a more controlled and gentle kind of cosmetic procedure, and it requires a skilled and experienced provider to do it right.
Liposuction isn’t considered a weight loss tool. People who have the best results with VASER liposuction, or any type of liposuction, are already within 15 pounds of their ideal weight. This procedure is for people who are trying to spot-treat fat deposits and reveal muscle tone underneath.
Is Liposuction Safe?
Vaser liposuction is generally considered safe when performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon in an accredited medical facility. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications involved. Some possible risks of vaser liposuction include infection, bleeding, bruising, swelling, skin irregularities, contour irregularities, fluid accumulation, and anesthesia-related complications.
It's crucial to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can assess your individual case, discuss the potential risks and benefits, and help you make an informed decision about whether vaser liposuction is the right option for you. Additionally, following pre- and post-operative instructions provided by your surgeon can help minimize risks and optimize outcomes.

How Long Does The Recovery Take?
The recovery time after vaser liposuction can vary depending on several factors, including the extent of the procedure, the areas treated, individual healing abilities, and adherence to post-operative care instructions. In general, most people can expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort for the first few days to weeks after the procedure.
Here's a general timeline of what you might expect during the recovery process:
Immediate post-operative period (first few days):
- You may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the treated areas.
- Your surgeon may prescribe pain medication to manage any discomfort.
- You will likely need to wear compression garments to help reduce swelling and support the treated areas.
First week:
- Swelling and bruising may peak during the first few days and gradually improve over the course of the week.
- You may be advised to avoid strenuous activities and to rest as much as possible.
- Your surgeon may recommend light walking to aid in circulation and reduce the risk of blood clots.
First few weeks:
- Most swelling and bruising should subside within a few weeks, although some residual swelling may persist.
- You may gradually resume light activities, but you should still avoid vigorous exercise and heavy lifting.
- Continue wearing compression garments as instructed by your surgeon.
Several weeks to months:
- Final results become more apparent as swelling continues to diminish.
- You may gradually resume normal activities and exercise routines, following your surgeon's guidance.
- It's essential to attend follow-up appointments with your surgeon to monitor your progress and address any concerns.
While many people can return to work and light activities within a few days to a week after vaser liposuction, it may take several weeks to months to fully recover and see the final results. It's essential to be patient with the healing process and to follow your surgeon's instructions closely for the best outcomes.
While discomfort is normal after the procedure, pain is usually manageable with prescribed medications and diminishes as the recovery progresses.
The amount of fat that can be safely removed depends on various factors, including the patient's overall health, body composition, and the surgeon's assessment. Typically, it's recommended to remove a conservative amount of fat to achieve natural-looking results and minimize risks.
Vaser liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the treated areas. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle with proper diet and exercise is crucial to prevent fat accumulation in other areas of the body.
Vaser liposuction involves small incisions through which a thin cannula is inserted to target fat cells. While some scarring may occur, the incisions are usually small and strategically placed to minimize visibility. Scarring can vary depending on individual healing factors and the skill of the surgeon.
While initial results may be visible shortly after the procedure, it can take several weeks to months for swelling to fully subside and for the final results to become apparent.
Yes, vaser liposuction can often be combined with other cosmetic procedures such as tummy tucks, breast augmentation, or fat transfer to enhance overall body contouring and achieve desired aesthetic goals.
